When you have made an investment in purchasing a human hair wig from a company like Serge's Wigs, the last thing that you want to see is this wig looking worn or becoming tangled after only a few months of use. The first step, of course, is to make sure that you're following the proper maintenance tips for your wig. After proper maintenance, if you do notice that it is looking worn, there is a way to revive it. A bleach bath will quickly make your wig spring back to life. Here's how to do it.

Bleach Bath Supplies

First, set up your supplies. To do a bleach bath you will need:

  • Gloves
  • Bleach
  • Shampoo
  • Conditioner
  • Ammonia
  • 3 shallow buckets
  • A large plastic bag
  • A wide tooth comb
  • Water

The Bleach Bath Process

Step 1: Safety First

Now that you have all of your supplies together, put on your gloves to protect your nails and skin. Make sure that you are working in a ventilated area.

Step 2: Submerge Your Wig

Fill one of your shallow buckets with a gallon of very hot water and then add a quarter cup of bleach. Place your wig in this shallow bucket and leave it there for three minutes. You will notice that there will be small bubbles, which lets you know that the bleach bath is working properly.

Step 3: Comb Your Wig Underwater

Comb your wig with a wide tooth comb in a downward direction while it is still submerged. This will help smooth the hair.

Step 4: Shampoo

Take the wig from the bleach solution. Submerge it in your other shallow bucket in lukewarm water and then shampoo it. Comb your wig while it is submerged.

Step 5: Rinse with Ammonia

In another shallow bucket, mix 3/4 cups of warm water with 1/4 cup of ammonia. Place your wig in this solution and agitate it gently for three seconds. Repeat.

Step 6: Shampoo after Ammonia

Take your wig from the ammonia solution and place it in a shallow bucket with lukewarm water then follow the shampoo directions in step 4.

Step 7: Apply Conditioner to Your Wig

Apply some conditioner to wig and then place it in a large plastic baggie. Microwave it; warming it for approximately 20 seconds. Remove it from the microwave and watch that it will be hot to the touch.

Step 8: Final Rinse

After removing the wig from the microwave, rinse it very well. You do not have to do this in a shallow bucket anymore. Just rinse it under running water.

Step 9: Drying Time

Hang your wig with clothes pins on a hanger. Let it air dry.

Notice how smooth and shiny your wig is now. Doing a bleach bath to your wig will revive it and bring it back to life. There's no better way to protect your investment.
